Freelance Engineer / Tech Lead & PM
Build your own tools. From AI-driven development to front-end, back-end, infrastructure, and leading teams.
Hi, I'm Yuta Matsuzaki — a freelance engineer based in Tsukuba (Kenkyu-Gakuen), Japan. “Build your own tools” is my motto, and I mostly work on the web. I've loved making things since junior high and have been building apps and products for over 20 years.
After studying information networking at university, I worked on large-scale services at Yahoo Japan, then went independent as a freelancer. That adds up to 14 years of professional web application development — a full-stack engineer across front-end, back-end, and infrastructure, covering everything from requirements and architecture through implementation, operations, and improvement. Most recently I've been tech lead and PM for a healthcare SaaS product.
These days my main focus is AI-driven development: designing workflows that use different AI agents for different jobs, and setting the review standards that keep AI-generated code trustworthy — so the whole team can work at the same level of quality, not just me.
Trying new technology by actually building with it is a habit, and what I enjoy most is when something I built turns out to be useful to someone. The apps on this site grew out of exactly that itch to build.
Thesis on machine learning and ontologies (image processing / semantic web).
Founding member of a smartphone push-notification platform, then dev lead and PM for the smartphone web version of Yahoo! Mail, spanning development, operations, and planning.
Built desktop apps and internal tools, from planning and design through to maintenance.
Six years as tech lead on an industry–academia–government healthcare app, plus mentoring, directing the launch of a corporate training school, and authoring courses for beginners.
Leading healthcare SaaS development while moving the team onto AI-driven development and building out the platform foundations.
At beyondS, I'm tech lead and PM for a healthcare SaaS product, moving the team onto AI-driven development and building out the platform foundations.
Designing a workflow that uses Claude Code, Codex, Gemini, and Devin for different jobs — from filing issues through implementation to PR review — with company-wide review standards for AI-generated code.
Analyzing per-session agent usage to find the patterns that inflate cost, then turning the findings into session-splitting rules — cutting measured operating cost by roughly 85%.
Running a daily CVE audit across every company repository, matching NVD / GHSA / CISA KEV against lockfiles — and verifying reachability in the actual code rather than stopping at a version-range match.
Rolling out guardrails that define what AI agents may execute across 23 repositories, plus an MCP-based integration layer for internal systems, taken from personal use to company-wide.
Analyzing IAM privilege-escalation paths and designing the fixes, building read-only access paths, and layering audit trails — all reproducible via Terraform.
Working on an AMED (Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development) research project, drawing the line between what AI can be applied to and what people must guarantee under clinical-trial constraints.
Identified the high-cost patterns from measured data and standardized the fix as an operating rule — with ongoing monitoring so any rebound is caught early.
Established a daily CVE audit across every repository, joining up detection, fix PRs, and regression testing into a single cycle.
A real-time meeting transcription tool, released under the MIT license.
Selected as one of the top 5 mentors at an online programming school. Also authored courses for beginners, with follow-ups commissioned off the back of strong reviews.
Planned, launched, and monetized a new in-house service.
Six years on a collaborative healthcare project across companies, universities, and government, as tech lead.
From a notes app to a game that teaches neural networks — here are the apps I've made.
